Combine 1.5 cups chickpea flour with 2 tablespoons of berbere spice in a bowl.
Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a pot over medium heat.
Add chopped onions and sauté for 3-5 minutes until translucent.
Add minced garlic and chopped tomatoes; season with salt and black pepper, and sauté for another 3 minutes.
Deglaze the pot with a little hot water if necessary.
Add 2 cups of boiling water to the mixture and bring to a rolling boil.
Slowly add the chickpea flour mixture bit by bit, stirring to prevent clumping.
Adjust the thickness by adding more water if needed; season to taste with salt.
Cover and lower the heat, allowing to cook for about 25 minutes.
