Cut up the whole chicken into pieces.

Brown the chicken pieces in a large pot until they are not fully cooked.

Add enough water or broth to cover the chicken and bring to a boil.

Simmer for 20 minutes, then add the yam and cook for about an hour.

In the meantime, prepare the plantains by cutting them and frying them in vegetable oil for 3-4 minutes.
