Today, flatbreads are enjoyed worldwide, with variations reflecting local ingredients and tastes, making them a versatile choice for any meal.

Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
Combine 1.25 cups of warm water, 2 teaspoons of sugar, and 2.5 teaspoons of active dry yeast in a bowl and stir. Set aside for about 15 minutes until frothy.
Mix 3.5 cups of all purpose flour with 2 teaspoons of fine sea salt in a bowl until evenly dispersed.
Once the yeast mixture is frothy, create a well in the center of the flour mixture.
Pour the melted butter and yeast mixture into the well and begin mixing from the center, gradually incorporating the flour.
Once combined, switch to using your hands to form a cohesive dough ball on the work surface.
Knead the dough until smooth, adding extra flour if it becomes tacky.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl with olive oil, cover with a tea towel, and let it rest for about 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, knead the dough a couple of times, then return it to the bowl and cover it to rise until doubled in size, which may take 1-2 hours depending on room temperature.
Dust the work surface lightly with flour, then turn out the dough and knock it down.
Divide the dough into 6 equal portions by cutting it in half lengthwise and then into thirds.
Shape each portion into a ball by folding the bottom and pinching it to create a smooth surface.
Cover the balls with a tea towel or wrap to prevent drying out and let them rest for about 15 minutes.
Grease a baking sheet with olive oil.
Take one dough ball, press it flat, and roll it out as thin as possible, dusting with flour if tacky.
Sprinkle sesame seeds on the rolled dough and roll them into the pita.
Preheat the oven and bake the pitas for about 8 minutes, turning the pan halfway through after 4 minutes to ensure even cooking.
