Roll out the puff pastry with a rolling pin. Place a 23 cm pie pan on top and cut out a circle, then poke holes all over with a fork.

Quarter the apples and remove the cores.

Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).

In a saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat without stirring. Once it starts to color around the edges, gently shake the pan until it turns brown.

Add butter and stir, then add the apples and mix. Cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally until the apples are evenly browned.

Arrange the apples in the greased pie pan and pour the remaining caramel sauce over them.

Cover with the puff pastry, tucking the edges down into the pan.

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes until the pastry is golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool for about 1 hour before inverting onto a plate.
