Today, these delightful pastries are cherished not only in Sweden but have also found their way into holiday traditions in various Nordic countries and beyond.

Melt the butter in a saucepan.
Add 1 and 1/3 cups of milk to the melted butter.
Crush the saffron in fingers and add it to the mixture.
Add sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla to the mixture and mix well.
Add 2 eggs to the mixture, saving the third egg for brushing later.
Pour the mixture into a bowl and sprinkle the package of yeast over it.
Mix in half of the flour and the raisins.
Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
Place the dough back in the bowl and cover with a towel.
Let the dough rise for about 45 minutes until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and roll it out into long shapes.
Shape the dough into S-shapes and place on a baking sheet.
Add raisins on top of the shaped buns.
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Bake the buns for about 15 minutes.
