🥗Healthier: quinoa

💰Cheaper: rice

Quinoa is high in protein and nutrients, while rice is often more affordable.

1

Rinse 1/2 cup of quinoa with water using a fine mesh strainer and a coffee filter or cheesecloth to remove the soapy coating.

2

Place the rinsed quinoa in a mason jar.

3

Fasten a coffee filter or cheesecloth to the top of the jar with a rubber band or string to prevent dust from entering while allowing it to breathe.

4

Roll the jar gently in your hands to help the quinoa stick to the insides of the jar.

5

Set the jar in a spot out of direct sunlight for 24 to 48 hours, rinsing the quinoa once or twice daily while waiting for it to sprout.

6

Once little tails have sprouted, rinse the quinoa again using the lid of the mason jar to help strain it out.

7

Fill the jar with fresh water, preferably filtered or spring water, and replace the coffee filter or cheesecloth over the top.

8

Set the jar in a dark place for another 24 to 48 hours, checking for bubbles forming among the quinoa.

9

Strain out the quinoa using a fine mesh strainer and a coffee filter or cheesecloth, and transfer the liquid to a new jar.

10

Label the jar with a date and refrigerate for up to one week.
