60 min
easy
8 servings
Servings4
34 small guavas
2 cups granulated sugar
3 cups water
2 slices of ginger
red food coloring (optional)
pectin
1

Go to the grocery store and find guavas on sale.

2

Trim off the stem and bottom part of each guava.

3

Cut the guavas into quarters and place them in a bowl.

4

In a deep saucepan, add 2 cups of water and bring it to a medium-high flame.

5

Add the chopped guavas to the saucepan and top it off with another cup of water, totaling 3 cups.

6

Add 2 slices of ginger to the pot and bring it to a boil.

7

Once boiling, remove the lid and stir to mix the ginger.

8

Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 25 minutes until the guavas are soft.

9

Turn off the heat and use a stick blender to pulse the mixture until smooth.

10

If the mixture is too thick, add another cup of hot water.

11

Strain the pulp into a clean bowl to remove grit and seeds using a wooden spoon.

12

Optionally, add a couple drops of red food coloring to mimic the color of traditional guava jam.

13

Return the strained pulp to a clean pot.

14

Add 2 cups of granulated sugar to the pulp and stir.

15

Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer to melt the sugar and enhance the guava flavor.

16

Add the entire pack of pectin to the mixture and whisk it in while cooking to avoid sticking.

17

Sterilize the container for storing the jam while the mixture cooks.

18

Once the sugar has melted and the mixture is smooth, pour it into the sterilized container and let it set.
