Its name, translating to 'Rule Bread,' reflects its traditional role in Filipino culture as a staple for gatherings. Today, it is cherished not only in homes but also in bakeries across the country, showcasing the adaptability of Filipino cuisine.

Activate yeast in lukewarm water with 2 tbsp sugar until frothy.
Mix 2 & 3/4 cups all purpose flour, 1 tsp baking powder, and 1/2 tsp salt in a large bowl.
Combine 1/3 cup veg. oil, 3 tbsp butter/margarine, and 1/2 tsp vanilla in a separate bowl.
Add the yeast mixture to the oil and butter mixture and stir to combine.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
Knead the dough until smooth.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled.
Punch down the risen dough and shape it into small rounds or loaves.
Place shaped dough on a baking sheet and let rise again for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 180C (350°F).
Bake the bread for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
