1

Put the chicken in a large pot with 1 gallon of water.

2

Add 1 tablespoon of salt and 6 small bay leaves to the pot.

3

Cook the chicken in boiling water for 2 to 4 hours for better flavor extraction.

4

After about 1.5 hours, check the chicken; it should be falling off the bone.

5

Remove the chicken from the pot and let it cool for at least 30 minutes.

6

While the chicken is cooling, peel and chop the carrots, onions, and turnips.

7

Drop the tomatoes into the boiling chicken stock for about 2 minutes to peel them.

8

Add the chopped carrots, onions, turnips, and rice to the pot and cook for 20 to 40 minutes.

9

Shred the cooled chicken and add it back into the pot along with the peeled tomatoes.

10

Add piri piri peppers to the pot and let it cook for an additional 10 minutes to marry the flavors.

11

For serving, temper an egg yolk with hot liquid and whisk it into the soup off the heat.

12

Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
