Dissolve 2 teaspoons espresso powder and 1 tablespoon sugar in 3/4 cup hot water and add 1/2 tablespoon coffee liqueur, then stir.
Separate 4 egg yolks and save the egg whites for another recipe.
In a bowl, combine the egg yolks with 1/2 cup sugar and place the bowl over a pot of simmering water, ensuring the water doesn't touch the bowl.
Whisk the egg yolk mixture for 10 minutes over low heat until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is light yellow and thickened.
Remove the bowl from heat and set aside to cool.
In a separate bowl, lightly beat 227g (8 oz) mascarpone cheese without over-beating.
Add 1 cup (240g) heavy whipping cream to the mascarpone and whisk until the consistency is thick.
Combine the cooled egg yolk mixture with the mascarpone and cream mixture, whisking just until combined without over-whisking.
Dip store-bought ladyfingers into the coffee mixture for 1-2 seconds, ensuring not to soak them to avoid sogginess.
Arrange the dipped ladyfingers in a 9 x 7 inch dish and add half of the mascarpone filling, smoothing it out.
Dip more ladyfingers and arrange them again in the dish, then add the remaining mascarpone filling and smooth it out.
Let the tiramisu set in the fridge for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the ladyfingers to absorb the flavors.
Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.
