Melt 1/2 cup butter and 1 cup sugar in a medium saucepan.

Reduce the heat and stir in 1/2 cup cream.
Whisk until the mixture is smooth.
Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Remove from heat.
Serve warm on gourmet drinks or let it cool and serve.
