This dish showcases the versatility of plantains, transforming them into a comforting layered meal that brings families together. While it honors its roots, modern variations have emerged, incorporating different proteins and cheeses, making it a beloved dish in many households.
mozzarella cheese

Cut the override plantains into strips.
Fry the plantain strips until done, then remove them to a paper towel to drain excess oil.
In a pot, add 1 pound of ground beef and cook until all the red has vanished, stirring to prevent clumping.
Season the beef with salt and your favorite seasoning.
Add chopped onions, garlic, bell peppers, and fresh thyme to the beef and sauté until fragrant.
Mix in your favorite pasta sauce and a bit of sugar to balance the tanginess.
Cover and cook the mixture for about 10 minutes.
In a baking bowl, place one thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom, followed by a layer of plantains.
Add another layer of meat sauce and some cheese of your choice.
Beat 1 egg with milk and pour it over the layers.
Continue assembling with more layers of plantains, meat sauce, and cheese.
Top off with more cheese and place in a preheated oven to bake for about 25 minutes or until the top is golden.
