1

Prepare caramel syrup by combining 12 tbsp sugar and 3/4 cup water in a saucepan, heating until dissolved. Add yellow food coloring if desired.

2

For the custard layer, whisk together 4 eggs, 3/4 cup fresh milk, 1 cup condensed milk, and 1/2 tsp vanilla until smooth.

3

For the cake batter, mix 1 cup cake flour, 1 & 1/2 tsp baking powder, and 1/2 tsp salt in a bowl.

4

In another bowl, whisk together 4 egg yolks and 1/3 cup caster sugar until light and fluffy. Add 1/4 cup vegetable oil, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/3 cup fresh milk, mixing well.

5

Combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.

6

In a separate bowl, beat 4 egg whites with 1/2 tsp cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Gradually add 1/3 cup caster sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.

7

Fold the meringue mixture into the cake batter gently.

8

Pour half of the cake batter into a prepared cake pan, then add the custard layer on top, followed by the remaining cake batter.

9

Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
