How to Make Maple Taffy / Maple Candy

Fill a baking tray with fresh snow, ensuring it's clean for eating.

If snow isn't available, crush ice cubes and smooth them out in the tray.

Pour maple syrup into a metal camping cup (approximately 1 cup).

Turn on the burner and heat the syrup, stirring constantly to prevent bubbling over.

Monitor the temperature with a candy thermometer, watching for it to reach 235°F.

Once the syrup reaches 235°F, remove it from the burner and let it cool for a few minutes until bubbles settle.

To test if the Taffy is ready without a thermometer, drip some syrup into a glass of cold water; it should blob together if ready.

Pour the hot Taffy into small strips over the snow, working quickly as it will solidify upon contact.

Wrap the Taffy around popsicle sticks or, in this case, Maple sticks before it hardens too much.
