Slice the tempeh into strips.

In a bowl, toss the tempeh strips with salt, pepper, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, nutritional yeast and coconut oil until evenly coated.

If you are concerned about any bitterness, lightly spray water over the seasoned tempeh—just enough to dampen it without soaking.

Place the tempeh strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 180°C (350°F) for 10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy on the outside. If desired, brush on your favourite sauce 3-4 minutes before it is done.
