Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup Vegemite
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. 2In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. 3Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients and mix until crumbly.
  4. 4Gradually add the milk, stirring until a dough forms.
  5. 5Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 1 minute.
  6. 6Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  7. 7Spread the Vegemite evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  8. 8If using, sprinkle the grated cheese over the Vegemite.
  9. 9Roll the dough tightly into a log, starting from one long side.
  10. 10Cut the log into 1-inch thick slices and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  11. 11Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. 2Slice the French bread in half lengthwise.
  3. 3In a bowl, mix the softened butter, Vegemite, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  4. 4Spread the Vegemite butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread.
  5. 5Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the buttered bread.
  6. 6Place the bread halves on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. 7Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped parsley for garnish.
  8. 8Slice into pieces and serve warm.
