Heat 1/3 cup oil in a pan over medium heat.

Pour in 5 cups of water and add 1 tablespoon of salt and 2 large chopped green chilies.

Once the water boils, add 500 grams of soaked basmati rice and stir gently.

Cook on high flame until 1/3 of the water is absorbed, then gently stir the rice once.

Add food color mixed with water to one side of the rice and cover, cooking on low flame for 15-20 minutes.
