guava paste

🥗Healthier: fresh guava

💰Cheaper: apple butter

Fresh guava offers a lighter flavor, while apple butter is more accessible.

cream cheese

🥗Healthier: ricotta cheese

💰Cheaper: cottage cheese

Ricotta is lower in fat, and cottage cheese is often more affordable.

1

Set parchment paper down on top of a cookie sheet or pizza tin.

2

Place one sheet of puff pastry on the parchment paper.

3

Cut the guava paste into tiny pieces so it fits better in the separations.

4

Arrange six pieces of guava paste on the pastry sheet in a row.

5

Add the other sheet of puff pastry on top.

6

Cut the pastry down into individual pieces vertically and horizontally.

7

Separate the pieces and add little slits on top for decoration.

8

Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C).

9

Once preheated, place the pastelitos in the oven.

10

Bake for 25 minutes.

11

In a high saucepan over medium-high heat, combine one part sugar and one part water and stir.

12

When it starts to boil, stir well until the sugar dissolves.

13

Once you see a separation in the pan, turn off the heat and let it cool down.

14

After 25 minutes, take the pastelitos out of the oven.

15

While they are still hot, brush on the simple syrup mixture.
