Combine 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1.5 teaspoons of salt, 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika, 1.5 teaspoons of garlic powder, 1.5 teaspoons of onion powder, 1 teaspoon of chili powder, and 1 teaspoon of cumin in a small bowl to make the spice rub.
