peanut butter

🥗Healthier: almond butter

💰Cheaper: sunflower seed butter

Almond butter is lower in saturated fat and offers a different flavor.

chocolate chips

🥗Healthier: dark chocolate chips

💰Cheaper: cocoa powder

Dark chocolate chips provide antioxidants and less sugar.

honey

🥗Healthier: maple syrup

💰Cheaper: agave syrup

Maple syrup is a natural sweetener with a unique flavor.

rolled oats

🥗Healthier: gluten-free oats

💰Cheaper: quick oats

Quick oats are often less expensive and still work well.

1

Spread out the rolled oats and almonds onto a parchment lined cookie tray.

2

Toast the oats and almonds in the oven until lightly browned (optional).

3

Transfer the toasted oats and almonds into a mixing bowl.

4

Add pumpkin seeds and Manitoba Harvest hemp hearts to the mixing bowl.

5

Season the mixture with sea salt and cinnamon, then stir well.

6

In a saucepan, melt together peanut butter and maple syrup on low heat while whisking for about 30 seconds until it forms a caramel mixture.

7

Transfer the caramel mixture into a food processor with the medjool dates and blend until a thick caramel sauce is formed.

8

Add the caramel sauce to the oat mixture and stir with a wooden spatula or use hands to combine until it sticks together when pressed.

9

Line an 8x8 inch pan with parchment paper and transfer the granola mixture into the pan.

10

Use hands to roughly pack the mixture down, then use the bottom of a glass or mason jar to firmly press it down evenly.

11

Place the packed mixture in the refrigerator to cool and harden slightly.

12

Once chilled, remove from the pan and slice into bars using a sharp knife.

13

Enjoy the bars immediately or store in an airtight container on the counter for about a week, or freeze for up to 2 months.
