Almond milk reduces calories while maintaining creaminess
Slice the loaf of bread into about 1/2 inch thick slices, leaving the crust on.
Coat a baking dish (13x9 inch or oval) with cooking spray.
Arrange the bread slices tightly in the baking dish, stuffing smaller pieces into the edges.
In a separate bowl, crack 5 large eggs and whisk them together.
Add 1 cup of heavy cream, 1 cup of low-fat milk, 1/2 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg (optional) to the eggs and whisk until well combined.
Pour the egg mixture over the arranged bread, ensuring all pieces are coated.
Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake the casserole for 50 to 55 minutes until the egg is set and bubbling.
Let the casserole rest for about 10 minutes before cutting into it.
Sprinkle turbinado sugar on top before baking for a crusty texture.
Serve with powdered sugar and berries, and optional maple syrup.
