Mix ground chicken, chopped onion, minced garlic, minced ginger, chopped green chili, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt in a bowl until well combined.
Form the mixture into small balls, about the size of a golf ball, to create koftas.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
Add the koftas to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, add more oil if needed and sauté chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes.
Stir in minced garlic and ginger, cooking until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Add tomato puree, coconut milk, and water; bring to a simmer.
Stir in garam masala, turmeric powder, and salt to taste; simmer for 10 minutes.
Return the koftas to the skillet, cover, and cook for an additional 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
Garnish with fresh cilantro and lemon juice before serving.
Serve hot with rice.
