Originating from Hungary, goulash is a traditional stew that reflects the country's rich culinary heritage. Initially a dish for shepherds, it has evolved into a beloved meal across Central Europe. Today, variations abound, with each region adding its unique twist, making it a comforting favorite worldwide.
Quantities are estimated based on standard recipes for your convenience. The actual ingredients used in this video are accurate.
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat until shimmering.
Add chopped onions and cook until translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
Stir in minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Add diced beef and brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.
Mix in chopped carrots and bell peppers, cooking for another 5 minutes.
Stir in tomato paste, paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
Pour in beef broth and add bay leaves, bringing the mixture to a boil.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1.5-2 hours until beef is tender.
Add diced potatoes and continue to simmer for another 20-30 minutes.
Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Remove bay leaves before serving.
Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
