Originating from Hungary, goulash is a traditional stew that reflects the country's rich culinary heritage. Initially a dish for shepherds, it has evolved into a beloved meal across Central Europe. Today, variations abound, with each region adding its unique twist, making it a comforting favorite worldwide.
Start by heating a pot on medium-high heat.
Add 1 pound of ground beef to the pot and cook until browned, draining excess fat if necessary.
Once the beef is almost browned, add in the chopped vegetables: 1 small white onion, 1 medium green bell pepper, 1 poblano pepper, and 1 scotch bonnet pepper.
Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and mix everything together.
Cover the pot and let it cook for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are translucent.
After 5 minutes, add in 8 ounces of mushrooms and 1 tablespoon of tomato paste, stirring to combine.
Add the seasonings: 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning, 1 tablespoon garlic powder, 0.5 tablespoon basil, 0.5 tablespoon paprika, 0.5 tablespoon seasoned salt, and 0.5 teaspoon black pepper.
Pour in 14 ounces of diced tomatoes (with juice) and 14 ounces of chicken broth.
Add about half of a 24-ounce jar of spaghetti sauce, stirring to combine.
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
After simmering, add 2 cups of elbow macaroni to the pot and cover.
Cook until the macaroni is tender, stirring occasionally.
