Akara Banana

Akara Banana, a delightful snack from Cameroon, combines the richness of ripe bananas with the protein of black-eyed peas. Traditionally enjoyed during festive occasions, these fritters are a popular street food, showcasing the country's vibrant culinary culture. Today, they are loved beyond Cameroon, often adapted in various forms around the world, highlighting the versatility of simple ingredients.

Chickpeas are nutritious and have a similar texture.
vegetable oil

π°Cheaper: canola oil
Coconut oil adds flavor while canola is more affordable.
Peel and wash the cassava properly.
Grate the cassava or yucca root.
Transfer the grated cassava into a squeeze bag and squeeze out all the water.
Peel and mash the bananas.
Combine the banana and the cassava with the salt, then mix everything with your hand to dissolve lumps and make it uniform.
Roll out the dough and prepare to fry.
Heat oil for deep frying.
When you put the rolled out cassava into the oil, do not stir immediately; leave it to set for at least two minutes before stirring.
After one to two minutes, stir the akara banana until it changes size and keep stirring until golden brown.
Serve hot with spicy sauce or pepper sauce.
