Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease and flour the cake pans.
Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Stir in vanilla extract and milk until combined.
Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
Pour the batter into prepared pans and smooth the tops.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Remove from the oven and let cool in the pans for 10 minutes.
Transfer cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.
Prepare frosting by whipping cream and adding powdered sugar.
Assemble layers with frosting in between and on top.
Decorate with fruits, nuts, or chocolate as desired.
