1/2 cup oil
1 cup onion (sliced)
1 tbsp cumin seeds
3-4 red whole chilies
2 star anise
2-3 black cardamom
10-12 black peppercorns
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
2 ½ cups soaked white chickpeas
1 tbsp red chili powder
1 ½ tbsp coriander powder
1 tbsp red chili flakes
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp cumin powder
1/2 cup yogurt
2 cups water
5 cups water
1/2 cup mixed achaar
3 cups soaked rice
green coriander (chopped) as required

In a pot heat oil and add onion. Cook until light brown in color.

Add cumin seeds, red whole chilies, star anise, black cardamom, black peppercorns and sauté for a minute.

Add ginger garlic paste and cook for another minute.

Add soaked chickpeas and cook for 1-2 mins.

Add red chili powder, coriander powder, red chili flakes, salt, cumin powder and mix it well.

Add yogurt and cook for 5-10 mins. Add 2 cups of water and cover and cook until chickpeas are fully done.

Add mixed achaar and mix it well.

Add 5 cups of water and bring it to a simmer.

Add soaked rice and cook until 80% water dries out.

Cover and steam over low flame for 10-12 mins.
