Today, variations abound, with many bakeries and home cooks creating their own takes on this classic recipe, incorporating flavors like caramel or nuts.

Bloom the yeast by dissolving it in warm milk with a tsp of sugar and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to approximately 16 inches long by 12 inches wide and 1/4 inch thick.
Spread 1/3 cup of melted butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon evenly over the surface.
Roll the dough from the long edge to the bottom edge and cut into 1 1/2 inch slices.
Place the cut rolls in a lightly greased baking pan and cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, letting them rise for 30 minutes until doubled in size.
Bake the rolls until golden brown.
While the rolls are baking, mix all icing ingredients and beat with an electric mixer until fluffy and smooth.
Spread the icing generously over the baked rolls.
