They are often associated with indulgence and comfort, frequently enjoyed during special occasions and holidays. Today, variations abound, with many bakeries and home cooks creating their own takes on this classic recipe, incorporating flavors like caramel or nuts.

In a medium-sized bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and 3/4 teaspoon of fine sea salt; mix until combined.
Transfer the mixture to a stand mixer bowl and add 1/3 cup of unsalted softened butter; blend with two forks until incorporated.
In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup of lukewarm whole milk and 2 and 1/4 teaspoons of instant yeast; stir to dissolve.
Add the milk mixture to the flour mixture in the stand mixer, then add 2 whole eggs and 1 egg yolk; mix on medium-low speed for 2-3 minutes until a smooth dough forms.
Knead the dough by hand on a lightly floured surface for 30 seconds to 1 minute to smooth it out.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise at room temperature for 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
Prepare the cinnamon sugar mixture by combining 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of Muscovado sugar (optional), and 2 and 1/2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon; mix well.
Punch down the risen dough, then roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle about 27 inches long and a little over a quarter of an inch thick.
Spread 1/3 cup of unsalted softened butter over the dough, then evenly sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
Roll the dough tightly from the bottom to the top to form a log, then slice it into 12 segments about 2 inches thick.
Grease a 9x13 baking dish and arrange the rolls in the dish; cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Let the rolls cool for about 15 minutes before preparing the glaze.
To make the glaze, whip 4 ounces of cream cheese until smooth, then blend in 3/4 cup of powdered sugar and 3 tablespoons of whole milk until smooth; add the seeds from 1/2 vanilla bean and mix well.
Drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving.
