Today, they have gained popularity beyond Sweden, inspiring variations worldwide, especially in Scandinavian bakeries.

Heat 250 ml of milk until warm.
Mix in 50 g of sugar and 1 packet of active dry yeast, let sit until frothy.
Combine 500 g of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of ground cardamom, and 1 teaspoon of salt in a mixing bowl.
Add the yeast mixture and 100 g of melted butter to the dry ingredients.
Mix until a dough forms, then knead until smooth and not sticky.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Roll out the dough into a rectangle, approximately 25 cm by 60 cm.
Spread softened butter over the dough, sprinkle with 100 g of dark brown sugar and additional cardamom.
Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into equal pieces.
Arrange the slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Brush the tops with heavy cream before baking.
Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
