2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup sliced almonds (optional)

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, powdered sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.

If using, fold in the sliced almonds.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about 1/4 inch thick.

Cut the dough into desired shapes using cookie cutters or a knife.

Place the cut cookies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
