1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup water
1 teaspoon grape vinegar
30 g butter
150 g coarsely ground walnuts
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups to 2 cups corn or wheat starch
2 cups plus 4 tablespoons sugar
1 2/3 cups water
small lemon
1

Mix together 1/4 cup milk, 1/4 cup vegetable oil, 1/3 cup water, and 1 egg in a bowl.

2

Add 2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1 teaspoon grape vinegar to the mixture and mix until it forms a soft dough.

3

Add more flour if needed, up to 3 cups total, until the dough is smooth and not sticky.

4

Let the dough rest for about 10 minutes.

5

Melt 150 g of butter and mix with 1/4 cup vegetable oil.

6

Prepare the simple syrup by boiling 2 cups plus 4 tablespoons sugar, 1 2/3 cups water, and a small lemon until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens, about 10 minutes.

7

Cut the rested dough into two pieces and roll each out using corn or wheat starch to prevent sticking.

8

Cut the rolled dough into squares to fit a 25 cm x 35 cm baklava pan.

9

Layer the dough in the pan, sprinkling coarsely ground walnuts between layers.

10

Cut the baklava into squares or triangles before pouring the melted butter and oil mixture over it.

11

Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and bake for 10-15 minutes, then lower the heat to 160°C (320°F) and continue baking for another 30-40 minutes until golden brown.

12

Pour the warm syrup over the hot baklava and let it soak for at least 20 minutes before serving.
