In a large bowl combine all dry ingredients except the flour and beat them together with the eggs.
Add the baking soda to the yogurt and mix to activate it.
Add the yogurt mixture to the egg mixture and mix well.
Sift the flour and start adding it slowly while whisking using a fork or a whisk.
Knead until the dough becomes nice and smooth.
Sprinkle some flour on it and let it rest for about 40 minutes.
Make small dough balls and place them in a pot heavily covered with oil, rolling the balls in the oil.
Let the dough balls sit for 15 minutes.
Pour oil in a deeper pan and place the pan to warm up.
Oil your hands, form round shapes from the dough, making a hole in the middle.
Fry until they get a beautiful golden color, flipping to cook both sides.
Place them on a plate and dust with powdered sugar and serve with homemade fig jam.
