Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
Dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
Combine yeast mixture with flour mixture, adding yogurt and egg.
Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick.
Cut the dough into circles or squares, about 3-4 inches wide.
Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
Fry the dough pieces until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar or with honey.
