Put 2 cups of yellow split peas and 4 cups of water in the pressure cooker and cook for 6 minutes.
Peel and wash 2 medium-sized onions, then dice them using an onion chopper.
Peel and prepare ginger, blending it with 1/2 cup of olive oil and freezing it for later use.
Cook the diced onions in the pressure cooker until they become translucent.
Add cooking oil to the translucent onions and let them simmer for about a minute.
Add 2 tablespoons of previously prepared garlic to the onions and mix well.
Add about 1 tablespoon of ginger to the mixture and let it simmer for about a minute.
Add 1/3 cup of berbere spice to the mixture, adjusting for spice preference.
Add 3 tablespoons of tomato paste and 1/4 cup of tomato sauce, mixing well and cooking for about a minute.
Add 1 teaspoon of salt and stir the mixture, rinsing the cup used for blending ginger to incorporate any remaining ginger.
Add the cooked yellow split peas to the mixture, mixing carefully to avoid splatter, and cook for 4-5 minutes to blend the flavors.
Adjust the consistency with a little water as needed and let it cook for about 5 more minutes.
