Cultural Context
Knafeh is a beloved dessert originating from the Levant region, particularly associated with Syrian and Palestinian cuisine. Traditionally served during celebrations and special occasions, this sweet pastry features layers of shredded dough filled with cheese and soaked in fragrant syrup. Today, variations of knafeh can be found worldwide, with each region adding its unique twist to this classic treat.

Prepare the Kunafa pastry by shredding it into fine pieces.
Melt butter and mix it with the shredded Kunafa pastry until well combined.
Layer half of the buttered Kunafa in a baking dish.
Spread a mixture of mozzarella cheese and clotted cream over the Kunafa layer.
Top with the remaining buttered Kunafa to cover the cheese layer.
Bake in the oven until golden brown and crispy on top.
In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, rose water, and lemon juice to make the syrup.
Bring the syrup to a boil and let it simmer until slightly thickened.
Once the Kunafa is baked, pour the syrup over it while it's still hot.
Garnish with crushed pistachio nuts before serving.
