Traditionally enjoyed as a snack or quick meal, they embody the region's vibrant flavors through spices and fresh ingredients. Today, these patties have gained international acclaim, often found in Caribbean restaurants and food stalls around the world, showcasing the rich culinary heritage of the islands.

In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually add cold water and mix until a dough forms.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the onions and garlic until translucent.
Add the ground beef, thyme, cumin, and paprika; cook until browned.
Stir in the chopped scotch bonnet pepper and green onions; season with salt and black pepper.
Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick.
Cut circles from the dough using a cutter or glass.
Place a spoonful of beef filling on one half of each circle.
Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges to seal.
Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
Arrange patties on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F until golden, about 25 minutes.
