  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. 2Add olive oil, salt, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until combined.
  3. 3Gradually add the remaining flour until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. 4Divide the dough into two equal parts. To one part, add cocoa powder and milk, mixing until fully incorporated.
  5. 5Grease a bowl and place both doughs in it, covering with a damp cloth. Let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. 6Once risen, punch down the doughs and roll each into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  7. 7Layer the chocolate dough on top of the plain dough, then roll them together tightly to form a log.
  8. 8Place the log into a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise again for about 30 minutes.

  10. 10Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  11. 11Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
