Serbian traditional cookies, or Kolači, are a beloved treat often made during holidays and special occasions. These cookies reflect the country's rich culinary heritage, combining simple ingredients to create delightful flavors and textures. They are often served with coffee or tea, symbolizing hospitality and warmth. Today, variations of these cookies can be found in many Balkan countries, showcasing local adaptations and flavors.

Seeds provide crunch and are often more affordable.
Squeeze the juice from 1 lemon and set it aside.
Measure 200 grams of butter and add it to a mixing bowl.
Add 5 tablespoons of powdered sugar to the butter and mix until well combined.
Add 1 whole egg and 1 egg yolk to the mixture and mix again.
Incorporate 20 grams of vanilla sugar and the lemon juice into the mixture and mix briefly.
Gradually add 600 grams of all-purpose flour to the mixture, mixing with a spatula until combined.
If using, add 100 grams of walnuts to the dough.
Flour a wooden board lightly and roll out the dough to about 0.5 to 1 cm thickness.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350°F).
Cut out cookies using various molds and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake the cookies for about 10 minutes, just until they dry without getting color.
Once baked, let the cookies cool slightly.
Pair two cookies together with fruit preserves in between.
Dust the assembled cookies with powdered sugar.
