How to Make Vegan Chocolate Cake | Hilah Cooking

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

In a mixing bowl, add 1 cup of sugar and sift in 1/3 cup of cocoa powder and 1 cup of flour.

Add 1 teaspoon of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the dry ingredients and mix to combine.

In a separate bowl, mix together 1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup of vegetable oil.

Whisk the wet ingredients together until combined.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined; no need to cream butter or eggs.

Prepare an 8x8 cake pan by lining the bottom with parchment paper and greasing the sides.

Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan and spread it out if necessary.

Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Once baked, check the cake by pressing on it; it should spring back when done.

Run a knife around the edges of the cake to loosen it from the pan.

Carefully flip the cake onto a board to remove it from the pan, and peel off the parchment paper.

Allow the cake to cool slightly before icing it.

Pour icing over the warm cake, allowing it to drip over the sides.

Decorate the cake with orange slices and add a birthday candle.
