Caribbean Beef Patties

Originating from the Caribbean, particularly popular in Jamaica, beef patties are a beloved street food. Traditionally enjoyed as a snack or quick meal, they embody the region's vibrant flavors through spices and fresh ingredients. Today, these patties have gained international acclaim, often found in Caribbean restaurants and food stalls around the world, showcasing the rich culinary heritage of the islands.

Whole wheat flour adds fiber, while cake flour can be cheaper in some regions.
Prepare the pastry by mixing flour, cold butter, and cold shortening/lard in a bowl.
Add salt and mix well.
Pour cold water little by little until the dough comes together; do not add too much water.
Wrap the dough and refrigerate for an hour or freeze for 30 minutes.
Prepare the ground beef by seasoning with bell peppers, parsley, chopped scallion, grated garlic, onion, paprika, black pepper, hot pepper sauce, tomato ketchup, italian seasoning, all spice, homemade green seasoning, and salt.
Add 1/2 cup water and cook until the meat is fully cooked; let it cool completely before adding to the pastry.
Roll out the pastry and cut into desired shapes.
Fill with ground beef mixture, seal edges, and brush with egg wash made from egg yolks and milk.
Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 20 minutes or at 350°F for 20-30 minutes.
