1

Add 1 tablespoon of sugar to 1 and 1/4 cups of warm milk and add 2 and 1/2 teaspoons of dry active yeast. Cover and let it bloom for 5 to 10 minutes.

2

In a bowl, mix 3 and 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/3 cup of sugar, 1 beaten egg, and 1 teaspoon of salt.

3

Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until combined.

4

Add 1/4 cup of room temperature butter and mix for 10 minutes until the dough is stretchy.

5

Cover the dough and let it rest for 1 hour until it doubles in size.

6

Prepare the filling by heating coconut in a pan and adding nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and sugar. Mix well and add a tablespoon of condensed milk and red food color to your preference.

7

Roll out the dough into a rectangle or square.

8

Brush the edges of the dough with an egg wash (1 beaten egg mixed with a little water).

9

Spread the filling over the dough and roll it tightly, sealing the edges with the egg wash.

10

Transfer the rolled dough to a baking dish and cover with a tea towel. Let it rest for another 30 minutes.

11

After 30 minutes, brush the top with the egg wash and bake in the oven at 350°F for 20 minutes.
