Blueberry Scones

Cultural Context

Blueberry scones are a popular treat in the United States, often enjoyed with tea or coffee. They are a staple in cafes and bakeries, especially in the summer when blueberries are in season. The combination of sweet blueberries and buttery scone dough makes them a delightful snack or breakfast item.

1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

2

In a large mixing bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt.

3

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the heavy cream.

4

Use a spatula mix the ingredients until they just come together. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be shaggy and slightly sticky.

5

Add the frozen blueberries to the mixture and gently toss them until they are combined to the batter.

6

Turn the dough out onto surface and gently knead it a few times until it holds together. Pat the dough into a circle about 2.5 centimeters (1 inch) thick.

7

Cut the dough into 6 wedges. Transfer the wedges to the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each scone.

8

Bake the scones in the preheated oven about 15min, or until they are golden brown on top and cooked through.

9

Remove the scones from the oven and allow them to cool.

10

Serve the blueberry scones warm or at room temperature, with clotted cream, jam, or lemon curd if desired.
