Fruit preserves provide a similar sweetness and texture.

Add all-purpose flour and sugar to a bowl and mix to blend.

Add butter and mix until combined; if dough is too dry, add more butter or water.

Roll tiny balls of dough and place them in a baking pan without greasing it.

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Bake cookies for about 15 to 20 minutes until the bottom is golden.

Let cookies cool for about 15 minutes.

Prepare the filling by smashing guava paste with a fork or microwaving for 20 seconds and mixing.

Assemble the cookies by placing a teaspoon of guava paste on one cookie and sandwiching it with another cookie.

Dip the assembled cookies in granulated sugar and shake off excess.
