1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
5 oz fresh spinach, chopped
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Sprinkle of red pepper flakes
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon salt (divided)
8oz small shell macaroni
grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)

In a large saucepan, sauté carrots, celery, and onion in oil and butter until tender (salt your vegetables, about 1/4 tsp).
