Quarter 10 baby red potatoes, no need to peel them.

Peel 1 onion and cut it into bite-sized pieces.

Coarsely chop half a head of cabbage and cover it, placing it in the fridge until an hour before serving.

Measure out 2 cups of matchstick cut carrots, which is 4 large carrots if you want to cut your own.

Place the potatoes in the bottom of the slow cooker.

Add the onions and the carrots on top of the potatoes.

Pour in 4 cups of water.

Place a 4 lb corned beef brisket on top of the vegetables.

Sprinkle the contents of the spice package that comes with the brisket on top.

Pour 6 ounces of beer over the brisket, using any kind you prefer, Sarah used Guinness Stout.

Put the lid on the slow cooker and cook the brisket on high for 7 hours.

An hour before serving, take the chopped cabbage out of the fridge and add it to the slow cooker, gently submerging it.

Replace the lid and cook the brisket for one more hour.

Carve the brisket across the grain.
