Jamaican jerk seasoning has roots in the Maroons, descendants of enslaved Africans who escaped into the mountains of Jamaica. Traditionally used for meats, this spice blend reflects a vibrant culinary heritage that combines indigenous and African influences. Jerk meatballs are a modern twist on this classic, showcasing the bold flavors of allspice, thyme, and scotch bonnet peppers. Today, jerk dishes are celebrated globally, enjoyed in various forms from grilled chicken to these flavorful meatballs.

Combine 1 pound ground beef and 1 pound ground pork in a bowl.
Add 2/3 cup crushed pork grinds to the meat mixture.
Mix in 1 tablespoon onion powder and 2 teaspoons minced garlic.
Add 2 beaten eggs to the mixture and combine well.
Stir in 1 tablespoon jerk seasoning, 1/4 cup chopped cilantro, and 1 yellow pepper (chopped).
Pour in 1/4 cup coconut milk and 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, mixing until combined.
Form the mixture into meatballs, about the size you prefer.
Place meatballs on a wire rack sprayed with Pam olive oil spray to prevent sticking.
Prepare the grill to 350°F.
Make a barbecue sauce by combining 1/3 cup honey, 3 tablespoons butter, 1/4 cup pineapple juice, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 2 tablespoons Jamaican Jerk paste, and 1/2 cup sweet barbecue sauce in a pot on the grill.
Cook meatballs on the grill for 20-25 minutes until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
Remove meatballs from the grill and place them in a dish.
Cover meatballs with the barbecue sauce and return to the grill to caramelize the sauce.
Serve meatballs garnished with shredded carrot and scallions.
