Preheat the oven to 425°F.
Grind the large onion.
In a bowl, mix 1 pound of beef, 1 pound of pork, 2 eggs, and about 1 cup of milk.
Add 2 tablespoons of bread crumbs, 2 tablespoons of flour, 1 clove of garlic, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper.
Mix all ingredients carefully.
Shape the mixture into a loaf in a baking dish.
Place 6 to 8 slices of bacon on top of the meatloaf.
Bake the meatloaf for 15 minutes at 425°F.
After 15 minutes, lower the temperature to 325°F and add the remaining milk to the pan.
Bake for another 30 minutes at 325°F.
Pour the meat juices from the pan into a pot to make gravy.
Add 1 bay leaf and a dissolved bullion cube in water to the pot.
Add 1 tablespoon of currant jelly and some coloring if desired.
Thicken the gravy with corn starch and add a little cream.
Serve the meatloaf with gravy, potatoes, peas, and carrots.
