Heat 2 tablespoons of butter and 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a pot.

Add garlic and onion; sauté until soft.

Stir in 3 tablespoons of tomato paste and let it cook for 3 to 5 minutes until it caramelizes a bit.

Add 1 large can (32 ounces) of crushed tomatoes and mix well.

Season with salt and pepper; mix again.

Pour in 1/4 cup of chicken stock to thin out the soup.

Add 2 teaspoons of dark brown sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes.

Let the soup simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Stir in 1/2 cup of heavy cream and mix well.

Blend the soup until smooth, or leave it chunky if preferred.
