Gather ingredients: 2% milk, plain yogurt, and a thermometer.

Pour 2% milk into a saucepan and place it on the stove.

Mix continuously while heating the milk to prevent burning or sticking.

Use a thermometer to check the temperature every three minutes until it reaches 180°F (82°C).

Once the milk reaches 180°F, remove it from heat and let it sit at room temperature.

Check the temperature every 10 minutes until it drops to 115°F (46°C).

Once at 115°F, add room temperature plain yogurt to the milk and mix until smooth with no clumps.
